Biographies
Simon Newitt (Director) studied Political History at Brunel University and then completed his MA at University College London where he trained in Social Anthropology. He is currently studying for his PhD in the School of Social Work at the University of Central Lancashire, researching with third and fourth generation African-Caribbean young men themes of inner city masculinity and mental health. Simon previously worked in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and for NHS Bristol under the Delivering Race Equality in Mental Healthcare Programme. Simon joined us as Director in September 2009.
Peter Hobbs (Chair) completed his post graduate studies at Bristol University to qualify as a teacher. He taught at comprehensive schools in Bristol and Weston-super-Mare and was head of two large Sixth Form Centres. Peter was then a Senior Children’ s Officer for Bristol City Council where his responsibilities covered a range of issues including pupil exclusion, home education, special education needs, and safeguarding. Peter is now retired from paid work.
Tony Whitlock (Treasurer) joined OTR as a Trustee and Treasurer in 2003. A qualified accountant, Tony has over 25 years experience in local government and specialises in corporate finance issues. Tony is the Treasurer of a number of other Bristol based charities and has a comprehensive knowledge of public and third sector finance.
Dr Amy Davies graduated from Bristol Medical School in 2000 and qualified as a GP in 2005. She currently practices in central Bristol. It was Amy’s interest in young people’s mental and sexual health that led her to join Off the Record as a trustee.
Dr Rachel Brown has been a GP in Bristol for the past 18 years. Working in an inner city practice with a diverse, multi ethnic population, Rachel has an interest in women's health and mental health. This interest and the needs of her diverse patients prompted her to become a trustee. Rachel has been with OTR since 2007.
John Huskins was an HM Inspector of Schools and national education consultant for 18 years. A youth and schools specialist, with responsibility nationally for monitoring work with socially excluded adolescents and youth counselling, John also specialises in promoting work with under achieving and excluded students.
Dr Louise Molodynski was born in Birkenhead, and grew up in Lancashire. Having graduated from Oxford with a degree in Psychology and Philosophy, Louise studied medicine at Bristol University, working as a doctor at the Bristol Royal Infirmary from 2000. Louise is currently a Specialist Registrar in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in the city and joined the board of OTR trustees in 2009.
Bob Sommers is originally from London and the world of manufacturing, but later became a science teacher and taught in Uganda and Botswana before coming to Bristol and working in schools across the city. Bob was Head of Gordano Comprehensive School in Portishead, North Somerset, for 12 years before retiring and becoming involved in the training of aspiring Headteachers. Bob is also a member of the North Somerset Fostering Panel.
Diana Wetz is currently a therapist in NHS Bristol’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. She has worked professionally in education and social care settings and in the voluntary sector for both the NSPCC and Relate. Diana developed and introduced a model of school counselling in many local schools which has gone on and served as a model for school counselling services nationally. Diana has been a trustee with OTR since 2007.
Rachel O'Connor graduated from the Oxford School of Drama and is an arts practitioner and manager. Working with young people from all backgrounds, Rachel is interested in the therapeutic aspects of the arts as an engagement tool in supporting people to reach their full potential. Rachel is currently Programme Director with the Creative Youth Network and a Governor at John Cabot Academy. Rachel joined the OTR Board of Trustees in autumn 2011.
Julie Ingram studied Psychosocial Studies at the University of East London, then a Masters in Social Work, followed by Postgraduate training in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Julie works for the Local Authority in Gloucestershire, previously managing a 16 plus team for over seven years but more recently working part-time as a Short Breaks team manager. Julie also completes private work for other parts of Social Care and other businesses and joined us in 2011.
