What sort of things can I talk about?

You can talk about whatever you need to with your counsellor. We find that some people use the counselling service to talk about stuff like:

  • Relationships with family or friends
  • Self esteem and confidence
  • Feeling low and depression
  • Stress
  • Anger
  • Anxiety
  • Panic attacks
  • Loss
  • Bullying
  • Eating distress
  • Self-harming
  • Other mental health issues

Counselling at Off the Record

What is Counselling?

Sometimes it can be really hard to share how we’re feeling with our friends, family or a partner because we worry that what we tell them might upset or even make them angry. Friends and family can also feel that they know what is best for us and it can be tricky to work out what are our own opinions are about what we want in life!

Counselling is different - you can talk about whatever you need to with your counsellor and they won’t judge you or tell you what to do. Your counsellor will listen to you and support you to find your own ways to move forward and get the most out of life.

At Off the Record counselling is usually one to one and you will meet for 50 minutes or an hour, once a week. We will offer you six of these sessions at the same time each week. We can offer you more if it’s needed and depending on how things are going.

All the sessions happen in a safe and private space. Counselling at Off the Record is confidential.
