LGBTQ project Freedom Youth nominated for a ShoutOut Listeners’ Award!

Off the Record (Bristol) is proud to announce that Freedom Youth, Bristol’s longest running LGBTQ youth group, has been nominated for Best Support Group in the ShoutOut Listeners’ Award.

Freedom, delivered by Off The Record (Bristol) is a fun, safe, social space for LGBTQ young people aged 14-25 to meet each other, discuss issues important to them and have their voices heard. Freedom is open to anyone that identifies as LGBTQ or is questioning their sexuality – no labels applied.

Off The Record (Bristol) provides free, self-referral, confidential mental health support for young people aged 11-25 resident in Bristol and the surrounding area. This includes one-to-one counselling, group work, and bespoke targeted interventions with especially vulnerable and disadvantaged communities. Freedom Youth is one of a handful of youth-led mental health projects facilitated by the charity.

Hannah Greenslade, Senior Youth Support Worker at Off the Record, heads up Freedom and is delighted with the nomination. She commented:

“Many of us question our sexuality or gender at some point in our lives. This can be a confusing and isolating process, especially if those around you don’t understand. You are not alone!

Freedom is a young person led project that – depending on what you want – includes everything from social events, workshops and trips to activism and campaigning. As well as being fun and informal, you can also get specialist one-to-one and group support, including counselling.

We’re delighted to be recognised with this nomination, and hope you will get behind us with your votes!”

ShoutOut is Bristol’s LGBT radio show, airing on community station BCFM (93.2 FM in Bristol, streaming around the globe on www.bcfm.org.uk). Throughout the year, ShoutOut speaks to, interviews and promotes many parts of the LGBT community. These awards give listeners a chance to vote for causes and projects who deserve special recognition across the city.

Off The Record (Bristol) opened its doors in November 1965. This year the charity is celebrating 50 years of delivering specialist mental health services to young people across Bristol. A host of fundraising and celebratory events are planned across Bristol for the charity’s landmark year.
