OTR: Winners at the Charity Governance Awards 2017!

Last month we found out we were shortlisted for a Charity Governance Award in the category Managing Turnaround.

We attended the lovely awards bash at Clothworkers’ Hall in London last night and were DELIGHTED to be announced as winners of the award!

In winning the award, we receive an unrestricted grant of £5,000 to use directly in our work with young people across Bristol and South Glos. Ace!

Managing Turnaround basically means that we’ve grown loads in the past few years, and the senior folks at OTR have ensured this has been supported and managed smoothly. The following words were said about us:

“The charity has been reinvigorated around a renewed sense of purpose. The board and senior leadership team has achieved phenomenal growth and developed a stronger focus on user needs and participation”.

Charity Governance Awards are organised by The Clothworkers’ Company – a City Livery company that supports trusteeship initiatives – in partnership with not-for-profit consultancy NPC (New Philanthropy Capital), volunteer matching charity Reach, and recruitment specialists Prospectus. The ceremony also featured guest speaker Sir Vince Cable.

Two of our Trustees, Peter Hobbs (pictured left) and Patsy Hudson (centre) collected our award and said a few words of thanks on the night.

Our Chief Exec Dr Simon Newitt added the following thanks:

We’ve experienced a dramatic turnaround in fortune and grown at a phenomenal rate since 2009-10. This has challenged the efficacy of every structure in OTR – operational, cultural and governing. Our brilliant board have constantly evaluated their effectiveness at good governance, relative to the needs and size of the charity. The needs of young people have always remained central to anchoring this period of turnover and growth in OTR’s mission.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way! We march on…
