‘VISION’ 02 Academy Charity Gig

Vision is a charity gig with performances from five acts offering an eclectic mix of genres ranging from psychedelic-funk-pop, alternative Indie, upbeat funk-filled dream pop, punk rock and country. The event is being set up by Emma, Senior Bars Manager for Academy Music Group and will be raising money for OTR and Bristol Mind. Both charities, along with BIMM music college, will be attending to spread awareness and understanding of the services available, particularly for young people.

Here Emma tells us a little bit more about the event, and why she has chosen OTR as one of the charities.

Research has shown that people working in the music industry are more prone to mental health problems than the general population, with musicians being up to three times more likely to suffer from depression. All five acts either work or have worked on the bar at the O2 Academy Bristol and between them and the rest of the team we are keen to fill the room and take the roof off with an electric show for you.

Why OTR?

Well, I used the services myself 20 years ago and without the services and love and support from family and friends I’m not sure I would be where I am today or here.

I have seen an increase in mental health awareness in young people over the last decade, and I have employed a lot of young people in that time. As their employer, supporting them and directing them to services that can help became a common occurrence, mostly because people are feeling more and more that it is ok to talk about mental health, but also because I showed my team a lot of care about their wellbeing and was always looking for alternative activities to do with them other than just going to the pub to try and help give them a good life balance around work and studies! I love the ethos of OTR, the brand, the colours, the love and the clear hard work going into the project and in the understanding of young people’s needs. The social media posts and web contact is cool and engaging.

I believe mental health charities need more support, particularly for young people, who are affected the most in my experience.

Tickets are £5.50 and all profit of the event will be going to the two chosen charities. If you can’t attend you can make a donation here.
